The city of Porto
Porto, our host city for OPOMUN, is the second largest city in Portugal, losing the title only to Lisbon. On top of that, it has a very rich and interesting history. The city itself dates back to 300 BC and many landmarks from throughout time still remain today, such as the Medieval Wall that can be seen in some parts of the city.
In downtown Porto, you will find Aliados Avenue, which has some memorable statues of important Portuguese figures and is considered the center for tourism. Close to it you can find the Clérigos Church and tower, one of Porto’s beautiful churches and a tower where you can have an amazing panoramic view of the city.
On the other side of the Aliados Avenue, there is the iconic Majestic Café, a historical café built during in the 1920s for the elites. Going down towards the river, you’ll get to Ribeira, a very romantic scenery with many restaurants and cafés with a beautiful view of the Douro River unlike any other!
Another location near downtown is the Crystal Palace (Palácio de Cristal), a park with one of the most breath-taking sunset views of Porto over the river.
