OPOMUN 2025

Meet Matilde Lopes, OPOMUN2025 Head of Hospitality

Margarida Afonso, OPOMUN Media Team

After a chat with the Head of Hospitality, we gained insight into one of the Executive Team members’ perspectives on the conference so far. Matilde shares that one of the Executive Team’s main goals is to make people feel at home, and her Hospitality team is doing everything they can to achieve this.

As the interview progressed, she mentions the opening ceremony, the afternoon filled with debates and breaks, and how it allowed delegates to experience OPOMUN 2025 for the first time. Matilde notes that the event ran exceptionally smoothly, particularly in terms of hospitality, as all schools arrived on time for the opening ceremony.

Matilde has assembled an impeccable team responsible for various aspects of the conference. Meeting the expectations of other schools, delegates, and herself has been a key focus throughout the event’s organisation, ensuring that all expectations—both internal and external—are met. Her team manages the transportation of external schools, arranges their public transport, scans badges to track delegate attendance, sells merchandise, selects the venue and organises catering for the social event, which will take place in Alfândega. Her outstanding organisational skills have significantly contributed to the event’s success, clearly reflected in the high quality of their service.

She believes the Executive Team is a unique combination of six individuals whose diverse qualities and experiences complement each other, bringing out the best in everyone. The team consists of “ambitious individuals” who strive to achieve their goals. She highlights the Head of Media, Beatriz, for her creativity and perfectionism, ensuring excellence in media assets. Marta, the Secretary-General, maintains communication across all six branches of the team. Catarina and Afonso, Head of Logistics and Deputy Secretary-General, focus on organisation, particularly in logistics and finance, alongside the Head of Staff, Mariana Melo, whose coordination skills are invaluable.

For Matilde, one of the most remarkable moments of the conference so far was sitting through the opening ceremony. Seeing everything come together after eight months of hard work filled her with immense pride in both her team and herself, leaving her with a deep sense of fulfilment.
