Get to know one of our internal co-chairs, Carlota Coutinhas
This is Carlota’s first OPOMUN and first time being co-chair. Recently, she had the wonderful opportunity of going to Milan in November for ASMMUN where she completely fell in love with the art of diplomacy.
Following that experience she was chosen to be ECOSOC’s co-chair and couldn’t be more excited. She was delighted to be chosen to be a co-chair as it wasn’t something she was expecting, however Carlota believes she is ready and suited for the job due to her experience and preparation during the chairing sessions.
She really likes how everything is discussed in the committee and how talkative the delegates are. Even though this is a first for some, Carlota says they always find ways to make ECOSOC an interesting and lively committee.
With the variety of schools that come to OPOMUN and the international bonds made by the delegates, Carlota believes delegates leave this experience better than how they came in.
Carlota said she overcame her fear for public speaking for the first time by presenting her first clause in a past MUN.
Even though she was very nervous at first as the conference went on the fear disappeared and she ended up having a blast.
year for ECOSOC, Carlota advises delegates to make the most of these three days and to debate as much as possible. In her opinion, ECOSOC has amazing, and also, very experienced chairs which will ensure that the conference runs smoothly no matter what.
