A Wrap for OPOMUN 2025
Margarida Afonso, OPOMUN Media Team
As the day comes to an end and the gavel hits, proclaiming the end, the conference is finished with the closing ceremony and a rewind of these three days. Committees award their best delegates, and the Executive Team members say their last words. Through this rollercoaster of emotions, the 18th edition of OPOMUN leads delegates already waiting for edition 19th.
OPOMUN has grown massively throughout the last years. This is only possible due to the massive contribution of each individual that are involved in the Executive, Staff, Hospitality and Media Team. This year, OPOMUN received over 450 delegates, half of them being external, coming from diverse places from Europe, and even a school coming from the US.
This event has been in the works since September, ensuring quality, inclusivity, and the introduction to the diplomacy pathway, incentivizing delegates to “dare to make the difference”. After a brief word with the MUN director Pedro Pateira, he wholeheartedly talks about this OPOMUN edition, “OPOMUN was a powerful demonstration of what students can achieve when given agency and empowerment. From the opening session to the final resolutions, delegates engaged in insightful and mature discussions on pressing global issues, showcasing their ability to think critically and collaborate effectively.” He also added that “the level of professionalism—evident in the quality of debate, the seamless organization, and the exceptional chairing—surpassed all expectations. This conference was not just an event; it was a testament to the dedication, intellect, and leadership of students who, when given the platform, can truly make an impact.”, clearly showing his fulfillment with the results of this event.
To conclude, a special thank you for all involved. Without you, OPOMUN 2025 wouldn’t be the same. We are extremely grateful for Mr. Pateira, the MUN director, which his patience and organization were essential for the buildup of this event. Mr. Carvalho, who always expressed availability and passion to see OPOMUN succeed, also illustrating his interest and nostalgy as previous Secretary-General in OPOMUN 2015.
Gratitude is expressed to the six members of the Executive Team for making this conference happen and bringing OPOMUN 2025 to life, together with the collaboration from all Staff, who helped organize, welcome, register both badges and moments, to ensure this was memorable conference. Lastly, a special thank you for all chaperones who came from all Europe and even across the Atlantic whose care is essential for the delegates, which without them, nothing would be possible.
